Last updated: 12 July 2026

The Story Code Co Pty Ltd (ABN 84 638 757 767) (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to our website thestorycode.co, our newsletters and scan reports, and the way we work with clients and prospects.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you’ve got a question about any of this, email us at hello@thestorycode.co – we’re happy to talk it through.

The personal information we collect

We only collect what we need to do our work and stay in touch with the people who want to hear from us. Depending on how you engage with us, that can include:

We don’t generally collect sensitive information (things like health, race, religious or political views). Please don’t send us sensitive information unless it’s genuinely necessary, and if you do, we’ll treat it as consent to handle it for the purpose you gave it to us.

How we collect it

Mostly, you give it to us directly – when you subscribe, complete a form, email us, or engage us for work. Sometimes we collect it automatically when you use the site (see Cookies and analytics below), and occasionally from third parties like event organisers or referrals, where you’d reasonably expect that.

Why we collect it and how we use it

We use your personal information to:

We’ll only use your information for the purpose you gave it to us, a directly related purpose you’d reasonably expect, or where you’ve consented.

Marketing and how to opt out

If you’ve subscribed to a newsletter or scan, we’ll email you that content. Every email we send has a working unsubscribe link, and we honour unsubscribe requests promptly – within five business days at the latest, as required by the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). You can also email hello@thestorycode.co any time to be removed. We don’t buy or sell email lists, and we don’t share your details with anyone for their own marketing.

Who we share it with, and overseas disclosure

We don’t sell your personal information. We do share it with trusted service providers who help us run our business – for hosting, storing data, sending email, and managing our client records. Some of these providers are based overseas, mainly in the United States, which means your personal information may be stored or processed outside Australia.

Our website uses essential cookies to work properly, and we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as your device, browser, general location and the pages you visit – this is processed by Google, including in the United States. Keeping your information secure

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access – including access controls, encryption in transit, and limiting who can see what. No system is perfectly secure, but if a data breach ever occurred that was likely to cause serious harm, we’d assess it and notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or to meet our legal obligations, then we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it. If you unsubscribe, we’ll stop emailing you and remove or de-identify your details when we no longer need them.

Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it’s wrong or out of date.
